BSBI New Year Plant Hunt

The 2021 New Year Plant Hunt ran from Friday 1st to Monday 4th January. Liz took part. She says:
"I did the BSBI New Year Plant Hunt on the nature reserve on Saturday. You can see what I found. As the results were put directly onto the map I don’t think anyone verified them. If you go to the link and click on the, rather poor, photos you can see if I’ve identified any incorrectly and let me know."
Cheers,
Liz

This scheme is a partnership between the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland (BSBI), the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC), the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH) and Plantlife and is backed by the government. Volunteers are recruited and supported to survey 5 plots in a kilometre square close to where they live. The plots will be surveyed twice a year. The kilometre squares to monitor have been identified by stratified random sampling. The plants have been chosen as indicators of the health of individual habitats. There are 3 levels volunteers can participate at depending on confidence and knowledge and support will be provided both through training, web and telephone.

Across Berkshire there are still squares available to survey with more to be released in the future. The live map shows the squares that are available.
