Green Corridor Trail

Loddon Valley Ramblers (LVR) have completed the signposting of the Lower Earley Green Corridor Trail. This is a 3.5 mile (mostly) traffic-free route running across the whole of Lower Earley from Loddon Bridge to Shinfield Road. Much of the route is in woodland or parkland, providing a pleasant walking experience. With public transport links at both ends of the trail, as well as in the middle, the trail lends itself to both leisure and active travel use.
The signposting has been made possible by a grant from Earley Town Council and with the active support of members of the Earley Environment Group (EEG). The route is marked with roundels and black waymarker posts (see pictures) which were installed by LVR and EEG volunteers during the summer of 2026. Thanks are also due to Wokingham Borough Council, Reading University and the managers of Barn Croft Drive who gave permission for the trail to be signposted across their land.
The route is off-road, apart from a short stretch at the junction of Beeston Way, Lower Earley Way and Cutbush Lane (not far from Asda). It goes through woods, meadows and parkland, and takes in some of Lower Earley’s more attractive areas such Pearman’s Copse, Swallow’s Meadow, Wood of Eagles and the Loddon-side path from Sindlesham to Loddon Bridge.

You can download instructions for walking the route from Shinfield Rd to The George on Wokingham Rd and from The George to Shinfield Rd.
Leaflets describing the route will be available in local libraries, doctors surgeries, Council offices etc, and directions for the trail (in either direction) are also available on Loddon Valley Ramblers’ website – see under the Footpath tab.
The start of the walk at Shinfield Rd can be reached using the Leopard 3 bus, get off at the Ducketts Farm stop. The start on Wokingham Rd can be reached using the Lion 4 or 4a, or the little orange 19a/c buses; use The George stop.

Steve Vale, Footpath Officer from Loddon Valley Ramblers, commented “The trail has been in existence for some time, but only some of the locals knew about is and used it. Waymarking it will open it up to a much wider group. It is an attractive walk in itself, but may also encourage active travel, with its links to local bus routes”.
